Officials with
Joe's Crab Shack visited the
Port of Galveston on Monday to offer post-Hurricane Ike status of their restaurant, closed since the storm. Joe's leases the 2000 Harborside Drive building from the port.
Restaurant officials assured port officials they plan to reopen a Crab Shack or a new concept. But insurance and engineering issues are making it slow going, they report. The restaurant building is only 3 feet above sea level. Federal and city codes would require it to be rebuilt 11 feet above sea level.
This probably rules out the spicy rumor that
Hooters was ogling the spot.
But the idea that officials with Joe's Crab Shack are mulling a different concept at the prime site was intriguing. The site seems ideal for a seafood restaurant, it being on the waterfront and all. But maybe we could use something different? Any ideas?
