Happy readers are calling to report the return of Clary’s Seafood Restaurant, which quietly reopened this weekend more than a year after Hurricane Ike wreaked havoc on the island institution, 8509 Teichman Road.
The restaurant still isn’t serving lunch, but is open from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
“Clary’s is happy to be back,” owner Clary Milburn said.
Lunch service should return after Thanksgiving Day, Milburn said.
Meanwhile, calls and emails continue to pour in about the post-Ike status of TopWater Grill, 815 Ave. O in San Leon. Owner Robert Jakubas is aiming to reopen the popular eatery between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Went to Clary's friday night. They had no menus. We were told what was available. Since I had been many times and was aware of the normal prices I didn't ask. We order 3 cocktails 1 appetizer and 3 entrees. $178.0-wtf?, when we went to pay they informed us they could not accept credit cards. They made us feel as though it was our fault we didn't know about the no credit card policy. Very rude, food was great as always but I won't be back.

Yea! Two pieces of GREAT news in one blog: two long-time and treasured friends have risen again to the top.
Each with a great personal story of how they were even able to open a business in the origin:
1. Robert Jakubus' dad, Walter (Capt. Wally), comes to America via the underground railroad.
2. Clary Milburn, a waiter in Gaido's Pelican Club, begins his restaurant in an old diner, and with little money, when Hurricane Carla wiped out the Pelican Club.
Both are remarkable people.

We love Clary's! We were there Friday October 16th. It is true that there were no printed menus, that food and drink were limited, and there were glitches. We did not think about the possibility they were not prepared for credit cards, either. In our case, Clary's graciously accepted our local check. The food was divine and the service good -- we were delighted to be there to celebrate Clary and the return of the restaurant that has provided us with so many good meals & memories over the years. We will definitely be back!

We were at Clary's this past Saturday and the food was great and the service was fine and they had a real good crowd I will agree that people should be told ahead of time that they are not accepting credits card and I plan to talk to Clary about it. I was really glad to see that he was doing such a good business since there hasn't been any formal announcement about them being open.
