The Salvation Army in Galveston County is in great need of companies, schools, churches, clubs and individuals to adopt needy children — ages birth to 12 years of age supporting the Adopt An Angel Program.
This program supports needy children with new clothes, shoes and toys for Christmas.
We have seen hundreds of parents during the week of Oct. 26-30 who have applied for support of their children this Christmas. The children are prequalified to participate in the Adopt An Angel Program. The ages of the children who need to be adopted are from birth to 12 years of age.
Each angel’s name is placed on a paper doll angel (there are boy angels and girl angels) with the clothing size, shoe size and wish list of a toy.
Your role as a volunteer is to adopt an angel, shop and purchase new clothing, shoes and a toy and bring them to The Salvation Army by Dec. 14.
The goal of this program is a new clothing outfit with shoes for each child and a toy. We ask that the clothing, shoes and toys are not wrapped.
We need volunteers Dec. 15-18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to fill orders of adopted angels into large plastic bags, identify and prepare for distribution. We also need volunteers to help distribute the gifts Dec. 22-23.
The locations are The Salvation Army in Galveston, 2228 Broadway, and The Salvation Army in Texas City, 4210 Texas Ave.
Please contact Belinda Canales at The Salvation Army in Galveston 409-763-1691, Ext. 10 or Major Elda Flores, Ext. 12 or Lt. Kelly Bryant in Texas City at 409-935-1190, Ext. 110.
We need your help this year more than ever before!
So many parents have lost their jobs and coupled with the downturn in the economy have depleted their savings and struggling to keep a roof over their head and food on the table. Your charitable giving will bring joy this Christmas to deserving and needy children who cannot ask for themselves.
Please help us to help our children in our community.
Jan Porter is head of donor relations of The Salvation Army in Galveston County.
