GALVESTON — A Shepherd man who law enforcement officials said was killed in a motorcycle crash during the Lone Star Rally weekend is actually alive and recovering from his injuries, family members said Tuesday.
Roy Glenn Ener, 39, was riding at the back of a group of motorcycles when he lost control of his motorcycle in the 17000 block of FM 3005, about 2 miles southwest of Jamaica Beach, about 11:30 p.m. Friday. Ener, who was not wearing a helmet, slid along the pavement for 375 feet, police said.
The Jamaica Beach mayor, police chief and two Galveston Police Department officials all confirmed the man’s death to The Daily News.
The Daily News first reported about the fatality, without naming Ener, in Monday’s edition based on information from law enforcement officials.
On Monday, the police department reported it had confirmed with hospital officials that Ener had died and provided the man’s name and details of the accident.
Based on confirmation from the police, The Daily News reported the death as the lone motorcycle-related death during the Lone Star Rally weekend.
On Tuesday morning Ener’s brother Troy Ener, who was riding in the group with his brother when the accident occurred, contacted The Daily News to report that Roy was alive and recovering from his injuries in Shepherd.
Larry Mahew, who co-owns a security company with Troy Ener and who is Roy Ener’s boss, also confirmed the man was alive and home.
Troy Ener said his brother returned home Sunday night and was staying at his parents’ house, recovering from road rash and a concussion and was expected to make a full recovery.
