Even off the courts, former O’Connell and Ball High School state finalist Suzanne Schwab-Radcliffe knows how to serve well.
Schwab-Radcliffe, a Galveston County associate judge, is teaming up with Galveston’s Janis Yarbrough and others, preparing for the upcoming Galveston County National Adoption Foundation’s National Adoption Month celebration.
The event is scheduled for Nov. 21 at Moody Gardens, starting at 9 a.m.
“Our program was started four years ago, and Judge Yarbrough and I started it here,” Schwab-Radcliffe said. “This year we have about 22 kids being adopted.”

Heroes For A Day
The Clear Creek tennis team ended its fall season with a disappointing 10-1 quarterfinal loss to third-seeded and No. 17 state-ranked Seven Lakes at the Region III-5A Team Tennis Championships.
But picking up a clutch win earlier in the day in the first round against La Porte was the Wildcats’ No. 2 boys’ doubles team of Casey Armstrong and Brendan Fang.
In a battle that featured a strong La Porte boys’ lineup against Clear Creek’s mainstays throughout the entire season, the girls, Armstrong and Fang collected a must-win on the boys’ side of the matchups with a 6-3, 7-6 decision over Nathan Brock and Bryce Tracy.
Then, the Lady Wildcats did their part — again — with six singles win, including the clincher, a 6-0, 6-3 victory by No. 5 Peyton Hardman over Brigette Teague.
Clear Creek went on to win the match 10-3.
Consoling Thoughts
The final results did not go that much better for Friendswood, which, for the second year in a row, fell a win short of advancing to the 4A state team tennis tournament with another 10-1 championship-match loss to top-seeded and No. 5 state-ranked Montgomery at the Region III-4A Championships.
Winning all three of their doubles matches in the regional tournament was Friends-wood’s No. 2 boys’ team of Chase Crouse and Eric Linde.
The Mustangs, ranked No. 23 in the state by the TTCA before regionals, were the tournament’s No. 2 seeds. They drew a first-round bye before beating Magnolia West in the quarterfinals, 10-1, and Lamar Consolidated in the semifinals, 10-0.
Tip Of The Day
How many times should you restring your racket in a year?
The rule of thumb is you go by the number of days you play each week.
So if you play four times a week, then restring it four times a year, and so on.
But keep in mind a racket should be restrung no less than twice a year, whether the strings break or not.
