Come getcha’ ringside seats to see Galveston’s finest pugilistic firefighters, sheriff’s deputies and policemen “Duke It Out for the Galveston Boys and Girls Club.”
The Dec. 5 Battle of the Badges is going to be a real exciting evening for boxing and kids’ club fans.
There’ll be matches in lightweight and heavyweight divisions and both male and female fighters will be “fighting for the honor, glory and benefit of Galveston’s youth.”
Divakid Andrew Rourke is on the card opposing Lt. Jorge Trevino.
Jorge is a seasoned boxer but this is Andrew’s first match.
All the contestants will surely give their best to put on a good show. It may not sound ’specially Christmassy, but it’s all for the kids anyway.
It’s really all about the kids, but it is going to be an awesome night.
All the proceeds go to restore the Boys and Girls Club of Galveston to pre-Ike status or better.
Tix can be obtained at Galveston Island Credit Union.
Maureen Raps Up Volunteer Award
Maureen Patton’s adding another well deserved jewel to her already full crown as one of the Baby Apple’s queen-of-getting-stuff-done.
She of the 1894 Grand Opera House was feted by the Mary Moody Northen Endowment group as this year’s “Citizen Volunteer.”
A witty event all ’round, with daughters Jennifer and Melanie showing their inheritance of their mom’s personality.
Dad Larry has a lot to do with those girls’ charm — and their good looks, too.
Bonnye Karger on the piano and the Grand’s prez Victor Lang’s humor along with Bill Rider reading Maureen’s “rap sheet of accomplishments” (mighty funny for a lawyer) rounded out a pretty entertaining luncheon.
Grand staff members attending were Kathy Van Dewalli, Judy Webb and Virginia Weber with PR Robyn Bushong.
Family members present included Maureen’s brother, Michael Mezzino and his wife Rita, along with Larry, Jennifer Patton Grosvenor, Melanie and Maureen’s mother Mary Mezzino.
Also there to fete Maureen were Ann Anderson, Teri Callender, Christi Benson, Carolyn Clyburn, Mike and Joy Cowan, Celia Davis, TeeCee’s first couple Chuck and Mary Ellen Doyle, the ’net’s first couple, Guidry News Services’ Jim and Lynda Guidry, and Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas with Nonie Thompson making a cameo appearance.
Testing The Waters For Seafood’s Return
Divafave seafood restaurant Clary’s is open again!
Clary’s “testing the waters” with a limited menu but, not to worry, all your favorites are still there.
He tells the Diva he and his staff are so looking forward to seeing their loyal customers back.
Bangles, Baubles And Belles Come Ajingling
Jingle Belles Georgia Saracco Meyer and Bonnie Baty are hosting a fantabulous “Fall Into Bangles Day” this Thursday, the 29th, at Karat Creations Jewelry, 3228-13th. Ave. N., Texas City.
They and Sandra Ling will still assist you in your selection of the Latest Styles for the Hollies!
Knights Cruisin’ Along To Annual Fun Trip
Next year’s highly anticipated Knights of Columbus Carnival Cruise sails Feb. 25.
If you’re thinking of joining, the Knights tell us to expect four days aboard the newly refurbished and refitted cruise ship Ecstasy.
No airfare, no hassle, no cooking, no weight loss, no hunger — just four days of fun, punctuated by some ultra-intense shopping/sampling/staggering on Avenue Melgar in San Miguel, Isla Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Deposits should be in ’round now, with full payment by Dec. 23.
The Knights tell the Diva they must have eight cabins to qualify for the council to be rebated by Carnival Cruise Lines, so the more rooms they book the more money for the council.

Next Scenes ...
Look for deets on the following:
Fun reunion — the 1953 and 1954 classes of Dominican, Kirwin, and Ursuline Reunion Celebration had to be rescheduled last year for the 55th reunion of the classes of 1953 because of Ike. Sooooo, as it’ll take a lot more than a miserable homewreckin’ heartbreakin’ h’cane to stop the Catholic Old School men and women of the Baby Apple, the class of ’53 celebrated 56 years and their ’54 chums celebrated 55 years this year.
• Another opening, another show — news from Ranch and Home Products, under the fourth, count’em fourth, generation.
D’ya wannabe Divafied, folks? If so, send deets ’n’ pix of your parteez ’n’ proceedings to have your name made part of The Diva’s Scenery. Call ahead and we’ll help with the pix. E-mail divascenes(at)aol.com or call her at 409-744-6540.
