Berlin Wall expert to speak at luncheon

GALVESTON — Jeffrey A. Engel, author of “The Fall of the Berlin Wall: The Revolutionary Legacy of 1989,” will be the guest speaker for the Rotary Club of Galveston luncheon at noon Wednesday at the Fisherman’s Wharf Restaurant, 2200 Harborside Drive.
The wall fell 20 years ago.
Engel, an associate professor of history at the Bush School of Government and Public Service and the Evelyn and Ed F. Kruse Faculty Fellow and Director of Programming for the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs at Texas A&M University at College Station, will discuss excerpts from his new book.
He also is author of “Cold War at 30,000 Feet: the Anglo-American Fight for Aviation Supremacy,” Harvard University Press, which was awarded the biannual 2008 Paul Birdsall Prize from the American Historical Association.
He is writing “Seeking Monsters to Destroy: Language and War from Thomas Jefferson to George W. Bush,” which is to be published by Oxford University Press.
