LEAGUE CITY — A man’s explanation for his erratic driving led to a misdemeanor arrest Wednesday morning.
Sheriff’s deputy Gilberto Villareal was patrolling Interstate 45’s northbound lanes near FM 646 just before 7 a.m. Wednesday. The deputy pulled over a car after it veered across three lanes of traffic to exit onto FM 646, officials said.
After he pulled the car over, Villareal later noted in his report that he smelled marijuana coming from it.
The deputy asked the driver why he had moved across the freeway so erratically.
The driver answered that he “was busy rolling a joint,” according to police reports.
Villareal later seized about three ounces of marijuana, with a street value of $125, found in the car. La Marque resident David McLemore, 41, was in jail Wednesday, under $2,500 bond. He faces a charge of possession of marijuana, which carries a possible jail term of up to a year, as well as a fine of up to $4,000.
