TEXAS CITY — Rob Heifner has taken over as CEO of HCA-affiliated Mainland Medical Center.
Heifner succeeds Melinda Stephenson, who joined HCA-affiliated Kingwood Medical Center as chief executive officer in June.
Heifner has been with HCA for 15 years, most recently serving as chief operating officer at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.
“Rob Heifner brings extensive experience to Mainland Medical Center’s already impressive program,” Maura Walsh, president of HCA Gulf Coast Division, said. “His strong operations experience and dedication to serve his community will be an asset to Mainland Medical Center. Under his leadership, the hospital will continue to provide exceptional health care and support strong community relationships.”
While at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, Heifner opened a pediatric intensive care unit and launched “Kids Express,” a pediatric outpatient program designed to expand services to children. He also was credited with opening new satellite women’s clinics.
During his tenure at Tulane University Medical Center, Heifner managed an $80 million hospital rebuilding project following Hurricane Katrina.
Heifner holds master’s degrees in health care administration from Tulane University and in business administration from Louisiana Tech University. He was on the board of various nonprofit organizations, including the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association and the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Heifner and his wife, Lisa, have two sons, Dylan, 9, and Ethan, 4.
