Eating this up: It’s the dining event islanders and out-of-towners had been waiting for since Hurricane Ike banged up the restaurant scene. Clary’s Seafood Restaurant, 8509 Teichman Road, reopened during the weekend to happy crowds. The island eatery had been closed since Ike struck in September 2008.
The white-tablecloth restaurant, famous for attentive service and fried shrimp, is open from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Lunch service will resume at the 33-year-old restaurant sometime after Thanksgiving Day, owner Clary Milburn said.
For information, call 409-740-0771.
“Clary’s is happy to be back,” Milburn said.
On Top of it: Meanwhile, fans are banging forks for status reports of San Leon’s popular TopWater Grill, 815 Ave. O.
After some rebuilding delays, the eatery is planning to reopen sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas, owner Robert Jakubas said.
TopWater, which has been closed since the storm badly damaged it, opened in 1999. It’s best known for fried shrimp, pecan-crusted snapper and drunken red fish cooked in a white wine sauce.
Jakubas had hoped to open sooner, but as most businesses have learned, rebuilding schedules are as unpredictable as Texas weather.

Hi Guys: As business continues to recover from the monster hurricane, an old island company that specializes in storm protection products is growing.
The 71-year-old Aramco Storm Protection & Outside Blinds has purchased The Window Guys, Jim Milan, president of Aramco, reported.
Aramco, with a showroom at 5105 Broadway, began selling and installing The Window Guys’ products two years ago. The Window Guys, opened in 1997, operate two showrooms — one at 199 Interstate 45 in League City, the other at 9631 Southwest Freeway.
With high ratings from the Better Business Bureau and other consumer groups, the acquisition of The Window Guys was a good fit, Milan said.
Fit to print: That sporty little rumor that a new fitness center was opening in La Marque’s Gulfway Plaza is true. Fitness Evolution has opened in the 15,374-square-foot space formerly occupied by USA Health & Wellness, which closed in 2007 after nonpayment of rent at the 14047 Delany Road center, anchored by Boot Kikkers Bingo and VF Outlet.
Contact information for the gym wasn’t immediately available.
On the Mall: The retail scene is spicing up at Mall of the Mainland, 10000 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway, in Texas City. Managers are reporting the arrival of four shops.
La Senza Lingerie, which offers nightwear at affordable prices, is among the newcomers. Also joining the mall is women’s clothing store BE U and massage purveyor Relaxation. Finally, Los 3 Sombreros, which serves up Tex-Mex fare, has opened in the food court.
Bada buzz: Details are scarce, but a sign in the window heralds the coming of a Bada Bing’s pizzeria in the Bay Colony Town Shopping Center, anchored by grocer H-E-B at I-45 and FM 646 in League City.
The soon-to-be eatery is opening in the strip center near Wells Fargo. Stay tuned.
Biz Buzz appears Tuesdays and Thursdays.
