Volleyball playoffs begin next week. Here’s a look at the opening round matchups.
Class 5A
Clear Creek Wildcats (28-11) vs. Fort Bend Dulles (30-14)
6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dawson High School
Noteworthy: This is the marquee matchup in Class 5A Region III. Each of the last five region title games has included at least one of these teams.
Although Creek struggled through the first go-around in district play, the defending regional champs have saved their best for last.
They Lady Wildcats swept No. 25 Clear Lake on Tuesday in what coach Scott Simonds called the team’s best game of the year.
Simonds always has said this team has the talent; now it’s finally starting to come together.
Creek could be a dark horse, but don’t underestimate the Lady Vikings, who shared the District 23-4A title.
Creek also is experienced, with regional final trips in 2004 and 2006.

Class 4A
Friendswood (37-5) vs. Rosenberg Terry (17-16)
7 p.m. Tuesday at Stafford High School
Noteworthy: The No. 4-ranked Lady Mustangs haven’t lost in more than 16 matches. Expect that to continue, if Friendswood can avoid looking ahead.
Terry finished fourth in a five-team district, and the Lady Mustangs own the talent advantage.
The key, as coach Jerry Linch said, will be to keep playing at a high level.

Santa Fe (35-5) vs. Lamar Consolidated (13-9)
8 p.m. Tuesday at Hightower (Hopson Field House)
Noteworthy: Santa Fe has a record win total and finished second in District 24-4A.
But the Lady Indians know that means nothing come playoff time.
They lost in the bi-district round last year.
Santa Fe will be looking for revenge and also to make its offense quicker. The key will be passing.

TAPPS
Bay Area Christian (28-5) vs. Carrollton Prince of Peace (17-10-1)
Noon Saturday at Tomball Christian
Noteworthy: With a win, the Lady Broncos could make their 11th state tournament. They still lack a state title. Carrollton poses a tough challenge with good height, so Bay Area will try to unleash their big hitters.
