President Should Get His Act Together Now
I believe Michelle Obama has a problem with her husband — his obsession with Air Force One and the television camera.
Barack Obama needs to accept the fact the election is over and that he won. He must quit campaigning!
He needs to do the job he was elected to do.
It appears that Hillary Clinton and John McCain were right. Obama was not ready for the job to which he has been elected.
He hasn’t even been able to pick a cabinet that’s not full of people with personal problems.
But my biggest worry is his delay in making a decision about more troops in Afghanistan and putting our troops in jeopardy.
As president, he must listen to the desires of the people who elected him and fulfill his promises to them.

Man’s Best Friend Is Not A Vegetarian
One morning recently, the radio news included a story that said that having a pet is bad for the environment; it seems that a dog’s carbon footprint is larger than a sport utility vehicle’s.
The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals responded to this story with: “Just feed your dog a vegetarian diet.”
Global warming and cooling goes in regular cycles based on solar activity, not human activity! That is how the Farmer’s Almanac has been doing long-term weather forecasting for more than 200 years.
A dog is a carnivore — it eats meat! What do PETA members think all those sharp pointy teeth are for? They are for tearing flesh and eating meat. This is basic grade-school science.
As if it’s not scary enough to have people running around who actually believe in man-made global warming and animal equality, the people who believe in all this stuff are now in charge of almost everything in this country.
They want to control our health care.
Only God can help us!

Just What Has The City Asked For From FEMA?
In regard to Heber Taylor’s column “There’s lots of vacant reasoning on buyouts” (The Daily News, Oct. 25): On the other end of the spectrum, I recently discovered that Jamaica Beach has decided not to apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency funds to cut and haul dead trees.
Now I’m wondering if the big hike in our water and sewer bills is to pay for repairs to the sewer system that the city didn’t complete the FEMA application for.

Learning CPR Could Save A Child’s Life
In regard to the story “A Mother’s Fight” (The Daily News, Oct. 22): Losing a child is always devastating but shouldn’t parents of young children know CPR?
It’s so easy to look back at a situation and blame someone else or make someone else responsible but, in the end, perhaps young lives could be spared if their parents know the CPR technique.
Before the police, firefighters or a member of the emergency management team arrive, the parent could start lifesaving CPR.
Before new mothers and fathers leave the hospital with their newborns, perhaps they should be required to learn first aid and CPR.
Making others like police, teachers and firefighters responsible for our own actions or inaction is just wrong.

Knowing CPR Should Be Kids Care Necessity
In regard to all the fuss about police officers being required to learn and perform CPR, it is something that everyone should learn to perform, especially parents with children.
Not only should parents be required to learn CPR; they should also require anyone taking care of their children to know how to perform this lifesaving task.
Foster parents, day-care workers, teachers and coaches are required to learn CPR. Why aren’t parents required to know the technique before leaving a hospital after giving birth?
Just think of all the infants and children who would benefit from having their parents know this skill.

Copper Could Help Fight Infection
I read a news report about experiments into copper-coated surfaces — especially on door handles and bathroom fixtures — being coated with a copper alloy film that can significantly reduce the spread of infectious diseases, including the H1N1 flu virus.
Not only does the copper surface prevent germs from growing; it also has the ability to kill germs over time.
The health benefits from copper have been known for centuries. It doesn’t take a mystic philosopher to realize that copper’s uses may be far more diverse than initially thought.
It may not be cheap, but it would be money well spent if used in schools, banks, churches and other buildings where large numbers of people gather and congregate.
I hope such simple adjustments can be implemented. It would be a major advance that would benefit our overall public health.

Ron Paul Is So Out Of Touch With Our County
I wonder if Congressman Ron Paul knows he lives on the Gulf Coast.
Does he know that he represents a lot of people who live on the Gulf Coast?
He isn’t voting as if he does. He recently voted against funding for the U.S. Coast Guard — the same Coast Guard that pulls people from their homes during hurricanes, the same Coast Guard that rescues wayward boaters who can’t get back to shore.
His was the only “no” vote in the House by a member from Texas. Luckily, his vote was one of the few cast against that funding bill, so it passed.
This Lake Jackson resident does not seem to care about the same things Galveston County residents care about.
Maybe it’s about time someone from this county takes his place.
