HOUSTON — The 16th annual RE/MAX Ballunar Festival is set for today through Sunday at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. The festival will include more than 70 hot air balloons in competitions throughout the weekend.
The navigational competitions largely are based on the pilot’s skills in meteorology and math. The festival is designed to entertain and also to encourage young people’s interest in math and science.
“The mission of the festival has always centered on education,” Steve Lombardi, one of the festival’s co-founders, said. “Education is the key to a better future and our commitment is to inspire young people to study science and mathematics to prepare them for that future. Throughout the festival’s 16 years, we’ve emphasized this by connecting man’s fascination with flight with the math and science behind one of our greatest innovations.”
Tickets start at $10 per carload and include a NASA Open House from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. For details, visit www.ballunar festival.com.
