C.J. Cavness on a roll for Cougars

Santa Fe grad C.J. Cavness continued his stellar year with eight tackles and a sack in Houston’s 50-43 win over Southern Miss. Friendswood grad Chase Turner averaged 41.5 yards on two punts, and Dickinson grad Carl Barnett and Hitchcock grad Chris Thompson each started on the offensive line.
Friendswood grad Will Ebner appears to be completely back from his minor knee surgery last month. Ebner had four tackles, a pass breakup, a sack and a forced fumble in Missouri’s 36-17 win over Colorado. La Marque grad Jared Perry added 38 yards receiving for the Tigers.
La Marque grad Korey Mangum had five tackles and a pass breakup in Florida State’s 45-42 win over N.C. State.
Creek grad Jereme Brook had 65 yards and a touchdown in Utah’s 22-10 win over Wyoming.
Ball grad Rajon Henley had three tackles and a pass breakup in Texas Tech’s 42-21 win over Kansas. La Marque grad Richard Jones had a fumble recovery.
Texas City grad Chaz Thompson had two tackles, an interception and a pass breakup in Louisville’s 21-13 win over Arkansas State.
Texas City grad Johnny Thomas had two tackles in Oklahoma State’s 41-14 loss to Texas.
La Marque grad Clarence Ward had two tackles and a pass breakup in UTEP’s 38-33 loss to UAB.
Dickinson grad Ivory Wade started at left guard in Baylor’s 20-10 loss to Nebraska.
Ball grad Kenneth Jenkins had eight tackles, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery in Sam Houston State’s 34-30 win over Northwestern State. Ball grad Kevin Matthews added a tackle for the Bearkats.
Texas City grad Vincent Pervis rushed for 75 yards in Stephen F. Austin’s 28-7 loss to Texas State. Texas City grad Sean Warren added a tackle and a pass breakup, while Ball grad Brandon Scott had 19 yards receiving for the Lumberjacks.
Santa Fe grad Adam Garza had 58 yards receiving in Bethany College’s 35-2 win over Sterling College. That performance netted him offensive player of the game honors.
Texas City grad Brandon Robinson had two tackles in McNeese State’s 38-17 win over Nicholls State.
Ball grad D’Andre Dearmon had two tackles and an interception in College of Siskiyous’ 39-35 loss to Sacramento City.
Loynes Leads LCU To SAC Title
Creek grad Elissa Loynes didn’t win the conference player of the week, but she did post a career-best in kill percentage while leading Lubbock Christian to the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season title.
Loynes posted a .708 attack percentage with 17 kills to led the Lady Chaps in a 3-0 win over Mid-America Christian University.
Dickinson grad Kaylee Hawkins was named the Southland Conference defensive player of the week for the second straight week and third time this season.
Hawkins had 62 digs in two matches last week. She is third in the league in overall digs (429) and in digs per set (4.12).
Friendswood grad Lauren Holdorff had a career-high 19 kills as Lamar beat UTSA 3-1 on the Lady Cardinals’ Senior Day. Friendswood grad Adrianne Meengs added 43 assists, 12 digs and eight kills for Lamar. It was Meengs’ sixth 40-plus assist match.
