Insurance Agent Sanctioned
DICKINSON The Texas Department of Insurance announced Wednesday it had suspended the general property and casualty license of Juan Cortez Sr. of Dickinson for one year.
The department said Cortez failed to comply with continuing education requirements. Cortez was fined $3,000 and must complete 30 hours of continuing education, the department announced in a news release.
The enforcement actions announced Wednesday included 18 license revocations and five license denials.

Daily News Wins Awards
GALVESTON The Galveston County Daily News won three awards from Suburban Newspapers of America in its 2009 Advertising and Promotions contest.
The Daily News won the following:
First place, Best New Special Section Guide to Recovery. Ike: After The Storm.
Second place, Best New Monthly Section Coast.
First place, Best Rate Card and Media Kit.
More than 2,000 daily and weekly newspapers are members of the association.
