TEXAS CITY — A former Texas City resident Tuesday pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting her infant daughter and videotaping attacks by her husband against two children.
Julie Lynn Hinds, 35, stood before a jury in the 10th State District Court Tuesday morning to plead guilty to all three charges she faced.
Hinds, already on probation for an unrelated child-injury charge, faces anything from probation to life in prison for aggravated sexual assault of a child, sexual performance by a child and promotion of child pornography.
In December 2005, a woman who had moved into Hinds’ former apartment in Texas City called police after finding a videotape in her kitchen cupboard. The tape depicted Hinds’ husband, Darryl Hinds, performing sex acts with an infant and directing a toddler to do the same. The tape also showed Julie Hinds sexually assaulting the infant.
Jurors on Tuesday afternoon watched videotaped footage of Julie Hinds discussing with police her role in making the videotape, as well as the illicit tape itself.
In her taped interview with police, Hinds claimed her husband forced her to participate by threatening to take her children away from her.
Hinds has given birth to eight children, all of whom have ended up in someone else’s custody.
The children in the videotape have since found new, adoptive homes.
A jury in November convicted Darryl Hinds of aggravated sexual assault of a child, promotion of child pornography and sexual performance by a child. He is serving a 24-year prison term.
Testimony in Julie Hinds’ punishment hearing continues today.
