Happy Birthday to one of the Diva’s — and the Baby Apple’s — most favorite and loveliest ladies. Joy Weiss turned the big 9-0 with a festive dinner in Austin.
Hosting were her sons Buddy and Sue Weiss, Divafave Marc and Talley Weiss and Ronnie and Peggy Weiss. Up from the Baby Apple, a group of admirers; Charlotte Levy, Mark and Kristen Greenwalt, Wayne Miller, cousins Marty Greenberg, Steve Greenberg and Nina Kay and Marilyn Saltz.
Over from the Alamo City were Joe and Joan Gobroski Megna.
Leading the cheers, o’course, were grandchildren Bobby, Heather and Annie Weiss.
Back To School With A PB&J Luncheon
With post-Ike recovery finding many of our friends having to hold dual citizenships — Tom and Bonnie Farmer still residing in Texas City and Rick and Susan Walker-Benson splitting time between the island and Eagle lake — a back-to-school luncheon was a great excuse for a much-needed gathering of friends for lunch, complete with lunch trays, grilled ham and cheese and PB and J sandwiches, topped off with the Artillery Club’s famous white gazpacho.
Among those heard reminiscing about their own school days were Brenda Hutchings, Lynn Cantini, Seal Grief, Suzanne Little, Patsy Mount, Mary Ann Salch, Maureen Patton and Mary Viegas.
Those catching up on who’s back home and who’s not included Bev Odom, Delores Letsos, Joyce Marchi, Carol Lee, Suzanne Sullivan and Sue Anderson.
Cara Koza, Eliza Quigley, Erica Farmer and Chrissy Walker compared notes on their little ones who really are just back to school.
Be sure to ask Eliza for details about the upcoming Children’s Center Ball — it’s due Oct. 17, folks.
The real already-back-to-school team missed the party: Ball High art guru Colleen Moore, Parker second grade special needs teacher Michelle Funston and social services advocate Patsy Cunningham.
Popping in for a quick hello were Vicki Lewis and Pat Burns, adding to the group’s generous contributions of school supplies for returning students.
A Happy Birthday To Divafave Officer John
John Collins, one of Galveston’s finest in law enforcement as a Port of Galveston police officer, turned 44 in July and mama Amelia Collins is so happy that he and Gina are really enjoying their teenage children.
Mitchell turned 17 Aug. 15 and Amanda is 14, and in her freshman year at Ball High.
Main Event A Real Toe Tappin’ Night Out
What good is sitting at home — the Artillery Club’s first “Dinner Cabaret” featured Linda Petty and The Main Event.
The Main Event consists of Linda’s husband Larry Petty on the 88’s and Frank Deleon on the drums.
They transformed the A Club into the Carlisle in the Big Apple for a brief moment in time.
One of the evening’s high points was Darlene Moody leading the cheers for the Bill Moody birthday cake presentation along with Richard and Joy Ferdinandtsen, Gerald and Susanne Sullivan and Vandy and Sue Anderson.
That handsome cowboy had the whole room on its feet in a standing O.
Don and Betty Prough, Gene and Gerry Hornstein, Margaret and Harry Kelso, Brent and Ann Masel and Stretch and Vickie Lewis enjoying osso buco and pine nut encrusted sea bass with port wine and mango salsa served up by chef Michael as they listened to the soft dinner music of the Main Event.
Then, it was “Katie bar the door!” as Linda and her group worked their musical magic all evening, Dennis Miller, Charles Amie and Jim Little gallantly dancing with many of the lovely ladies.
The music was toe-tapping and fabulous.
Great on the dance floor were David and Monica O’Donohoe, Jerry and Patsy Mount, Steve and Mary Ann Salch and Fred and Pat Burns.
Bart and Sue Moore hosted a table with Dennis Miller, Lauren Hall, Carolyn Gaido and Rusty Eversburg, all of whom had a blast visiting Ross and Pat Coale, Jim and Cindy Earthman.
Great to see Nelson and Micki Avery, Vic and Michelle Sierpina and Avi and Margo Markowitiz, Micki and Margo batting their long luxuriant lashes.
Let’s do another one soon, David!
