Nancy Lefeber Hughes’ friend and client, Leah Rial, is a makeup artist for numerous Hollywood glamour women, one of whom is Angie Harmon, a member of the Caravegeli OGF, an “in” that got Mike’s Jeannie Hughes a walk on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards in L.A. and to the after party.
Also there were Nancy and Mike’s daughters Katherine and Laura. See pix.
Doc Nancy’s all snuggled into her brand new offices on Galveston’s 23rd Street, taking up where her dad, Edward Lefeber, left off caring for islanders.
Now Male Lei Lines Are On The Cards
Our Lady of Lourdes Altar Society’s card party and luncheon in Madonna Hall found an SRO crowd lunching on chicken salad, five-bean salad and macaroni salad-bread pudding with a (knock your socks off) sauce on top — delicious! — aanndd a never ending cookie table-available all day.
Nancye Kautz (ways and means chair) and Frances Russo (society prez) were in charge of the Hawaiian-themed party.
Anita “Sissie” Micheletti sez the men of the parish served as waiters, complete with straw hats and grass skirts — these guys are always ready to help out!
The “men” of Our Lady of Lourdes as waiters were Henry Trochesset, Father John Kappe, John Wright, Jerome Anselmo, Lynn Weems, Bobby Fisk, Robert Bear, Jerome Russo, Frank Marabella, Bill Alford, Tommy Matejka and Joe Micheletti.
Roses All Around
Baby Apple dwellers are a hardy lot, and we’ve been proving that all year, but now that we’re bleeding the loss of our beloved oaks, we need a spot of bloomin’ good news — and here it is.
Flowermeister Nelda Knapp Engstrom, a 20-year veteran and partner at Knapp’s Flower Shop, has her work peeking up through the ground at last.
Nelda’s following up mom Christa’s 40ish years in posie packaging. Ya’ gotta meet her staff of super talented people such as partner Kristen Hanson (a newly minted MBA at the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin), a reappearance of Lindsey Adams (graduating Texas A&M with her master’s degree in floriculture) and recent Benz School of Floral Design grad Lorraine Garcia.
That bouquet of talented gals is responsible for the many lovely roses that are circulating ’round the Baby Apple.
A Fine Group Of Chefs
Keith Bassett, Dianna Davis, V.J. Tramonte, Susan Baker, Gordon Robinson, Ruth Finkelstein-Suhler, John Schmidt and Jake Walsdorf are beating the drums for The Rotary Club of Galveston’s 33rd annual Chili Supper, which takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Ball High School cafeteria.
In addition to yummo “homemade” chili and rice, there’ll be tamales and a variety of homemade and specialty desserts for sale.
Guests may dine in or take containers for “to go” orders.
Entertainment, a grand silent auction and games and books for kids will round out the evening’s activities.
The bux benefits the club’s Galveston Rotary Foundation, which sponsors and supports many essential programs and projects benefiting our community.
