Look for fishing patterns to change with wind

Not much to say for Friday fishing, except for one report; however, earlier in the week, action was consistent for a variety of fish.
The forecast calls for northerly winds for the next several days and that likely will change our fishing patterns.
Last week, much of the action took place on the south shorelines of Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula where protected water existed.
Now, with the switch in wind direction, the north shorelines of East and West bays, along with Greens Lake, Jones Bay, Chocolate Bay and the shoreline around the mouth of Campbells Bayou, should be candidates for holding good water and fish. The good news is that the wind velocities are predicted to be light.
Now, let’s see where the catches came from before the arrival of our latest cold front.
Our only report from Friday came from Shirley Pike at Fatboy’s Bait Camp. Pike reported whiting, rat reds, big drum and specks being taken from their pier by anglers using fresh dead shrimp for bait. Pike herself caught a nice speck from the pier.
With the cooler water, action should be picking up in Jones Bay, which is located behind the bait camp.
Mary Ellen Waskow and her husband fished the 61st Street rock groins earlier this week and found consistent action on black drum, whiting and croaker in spite of the windy conditions. Waskow said all of the fish were released.
We received this report from Bryan Treadway, a regular Chocolate Bayou fisherman:
“Despite the recent rain, fishermen in Chocolate have been catching fish. They got out of the bayou and are finding quality specs and reds, starting just south of the FM 2004 Bridge.
Our beloved flounder are staging up for their annual run offshore and being taken near shorelines, ditches and where you can find tidal flow. Kyle Bradley had a good outing last Saturday taking numerous specs.”
Capt. James Plaag, Silver King Adventures, has been having outstanding results lately wade fishing in knee to hip-deep water.
Wednesday, he hosted the Tom Cervonia party of four and placed them into full limits of trout before noon. Five reds and two flounder were caught as well. Bass Assassins, Mirrorlures and Top Dog Juniors were the baits that performed.
Thursday, Plaag hosted the Bill Garrett party and had 30 trout and two flounder by 9:30 a.m. Bass Assassins accounted for the fish.
The Party Boat Capt. John made an overnight tuna trip last weekend and returned with quite a catch.
With Capts. Shawn Clark and Shane Steber sharing time at the helm, their destination was the Boom Vang Spar Platform, more than 100 miles out of Galveston. The 35 anglers aboard accounted for 279 blackfin tuna, three skipjack tuna, one yellowfin, 160 vermilion snapper and a host of other fish.
Rita Bauman, of Texas City, landed 12 blackfins, while Greg Moliere, of Houston, had eight. Williams Party Boats’ next tuna trip is scheduled for Nov. 14-15.
